In San Vicente, where the ocean whispered ancient tales to the shore, the tapestry of the Risulme family was adorned with a new stitch in 1998, as ma'am Jonalyn came into the world. As years flew by, like leaves caught in a gust of wind, ma'am Jonalyn, molded by the dreams of her ancestors, found herself amidst desks and chalkboards, a shepherd to young minds.
She was forced to develop a love for education, knowing that by doing so, she could help more children to become successful one day. Her dream was to become a civil engineer, but her parents chose a different path for her - to be a teacher. She stepped into this path with hesitant but determined steps.
The early days of her teaching felt like treading on a path strewn with thorns because this is not her dream. The complexities of teaching students with disabilities often felt like trying to capture the wind in a net, leaving her emotionally winded.
But every twilight, the golden laughter and twinkling questions of her children acted as her beacon, pulling her out of the shadows of doubt. Her children and her family are her compass, always pointing her towards her true north. Their very existence reminded her of her purpose - to ignite minds, to paint hope, and to sculpt futures.
On a day painted with nostalgia, a face from yesteryears stepped into her life, her success shining like a badge of honor. "Ma’am Jonalyn," she whispered, "your class wasn't just a room, it was a home." That moment, as tears carved rivers of realization down her face, she understood: the journey she hadn't chosen had, in fact, chosen her.
